Frequently Asked Questions

How is this program different from other diets?

The Healthy Weigh Now is extremely easy to follow. While on the program, you will meet once a week with a health coach who will monitor your progress and help you to stay on track. You will reach your goal quickly and effectively using our gluten-free, low carb, moderate protein products, along with ample vegetables, healthy fats, a daily serving of whole protein, and supplements. The food is delicious, you do not have to count calories, and you will not feel deprived. Once you reach your goal weight, you will be taught an approach to eating and exercise that will help you keep the weight off!

What is Ketosis?

Ketosis, by definition, is a metabolic state in which your body uses fat for fuel (energy). While following The Healthy Weigh Now program, you will enter ketosis within a few days. When you keep your carbohydrate intake to a minimum, your body has two other potential sources of energy – protein and fat. By consuming an adequate amount of dietary protein, you prevent the body from breaking-down and utilizing your lean body mass (muscles) for fuel. By maintaining a slight ketotic state, you will efficiently burn body fat while maintaining the integrity of your muscles.

What should I expect while on the program?

During the first 3 – 4 days on the program, some clients notice mild side effects (headache, slight fatigue) resulting from carbohydrate withdrawal. After their first week on the program, most clients experience increased energy, improved sleep, and reduced hunger/food cravings. In addition to losing weight, clients often see a dramatic improvement in their health!

Is it safe?

Yes, the program is safe. You will meet weekly with a trained heath coach to closely monitor and discuss your progress on the diet. Your coach will communicate with your physician(s) to ensure that any specific health concerns are monitored and addressed.

Will I be hungry?

When following the program closely, clients report feeling less hungry and experience fewer cravings. This reduction in appetite is due to the production of ketone bodies as a by-product of the body burning fat for fuel, or ketosis.

How quickly will I lose the weight?

Women can expect to lose an average of 2-4 pounds a week. Men typically lose an average of 3-7 pounds each week. The rate at which weight is lost will vary depending on a number of factors. Typically, the more weight a client has to lose, the more quickly the weight will come off.

How much protein should I eat daily?

The amount of protein needed each day varies from person to person. A general rule of thumb is to aim to eat approximately half of your lean mass in grams of protein. For example, if your lean mass is 120 pounds, you would need to consume approximately 60 grams of protein each day while on phase one of the program. This number will change slightly once you reach your goal weight and enter the maintenance phases. We will carefully monitor your lean mass from week to week to ensure that you are consuming adequate quantities of protein to prevent muscle loss.

What about exercise?

Exercise is allowed, but not required, during phase 1 of the program. If you do not already have an established workout regimen, we recommend that you wait to start one until you are close to your goal. If you already have an exercise routine established, we suggest reducing the intensity or frequency of workouts during the first few weeks on the program while your body adjusts to the new approach to eating. We will track your lean mass very carefully and supplement with additional protein to ensure that you continue to burn fat instead of muscle.

How much will it cost?

You will pay an initial sign up fee that covers 1 year of unlimited coaching, your first week of food, and your first ~ 1 month of supplements. Thereafter, you will generally spend less on food than you would buy while not on the program.

Is there anyone that can’t do the diet?

Most anyone can safely and successfully follow the program. There are, however, a few exceptions. People who have suffered a heart attack or stroke within the past 6 months might not be eligible for the program. For a full list of contraindications to the diet, please contact us.
